Since its inception in 1999, Sahaya has raised nearly 1.2 million dollars. Many thanks to all our generous donors and dedicated volunteers!
As Sahaya is 100% volunteer-run, we have no salary expenses. Our low 4% overhead expenses are fully covered by specific donations by our directors and income from sources such as Goodsearch. Therefore, your generous contribution is sent to our partners overseas to have maximal impact. Click the links below to learn more.
The preliminary trailer (narrated by director Andy Lauer)
BREAKING NEWS (March 2012):
We are extremely humbled, honored and delighted to announce
that the narration will be provided by
Academy Award Winner and United Nations Goodwill Ambassador
Jeremy Irons
In addition to having won may other actor awards, Mr. Irons is currently also Goodwill Ambassador of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Click here to see Mr. Irons' biography.
We are extremely grateful for this honor bestowed on us by Mr. Iron.
Reelaid director/actor Andy Lauer and cinematographer Josh Gibson spent 2 weeks in December 2010 in India to get footage for a cutting-edge documentary about our programs with the organization READ.
Andy and Director of Photography Rory-Owen Delaney are now busy on the post-production.
Do you like to see your name in the credits? Then read below as we have opportunities for you to get involved!
The picture on the left was taken in December 2010, the picture on the righ in November 2011. Thanks to HIV medications, the father's health has improved. The story of this family is highlighted in the video documentary.
Tamilarasan, an orphan boy featured in our documentary, grew up over the years from a boy to a young man.
Why make a video?
Sahaya is 100% volunteer-based.
Thanks to the efforts of our many volunteers and the support from many donors, we have successfully implemented numerous programs and activities in several countries, as you can see on the links on this website. However, there are still many people in need, and many orphans that deserve our attention.
To take Sahaya International to the next level, reach a larger audience and widen our ripple effect of “making a difference,” a cutting-edge promotional video that highlights some of our activities would be extremely useful.
Who produces the movie?
We want the promotional video to be top-quality. Because making suchl video is expensive, Sahaya started in 2010 a collaboration with ReelAid (http://www.reel-aid.org), a Hollywood- based organization started by movie actor/director Andy Lauer. Reel-Aid consists of people who work in the film industry and who use their available resources and expertise to help make promotional videos, 10 to 15 minutes long, for small non-profit organizations - such as Sahaya - at a much reduced cost.
From December 11 through 23, 2010, Andy Lauer and Director of Photography Josh Gibson (www.joshsgibson.com) spent time in India to take the video footage. Currently Andy Lauer and Rory-Owen Delaney (http://www.mbdfilms.com) are working on editing.
How can I get involved?
While ReelAid is able to provide many services and uses of equipment for free or at very reduced rates, there are still miscellaneous expenses that occur during the various production stages. The original estimate was $8,700 plus airfares to India (for a breakdown, click here), and we have raised those funds. A big big THANK YOU to everyone who contributed.
As we have to send a team to London to meet with Mr. Irons and record the narration, we are seeking additional sponsorships to cover travel and lodging expenses. The extra expenses for this is estimated to bring our total to approx. $12,000, which means we're less than $3,000 from that goal.
As a contributor, your name will appear in the credits of the video. The different sponsorship categories are outlined below.
We thank you in advance for any support you are able to provide, and encourage you to share this invitation with your relatives and friends.
Please note: Your donation will have a double impact:
To boost our fundraising campaign, an anonymous sponsor has come forward and agreed that every contribution that is made towards the video project (up to a total of $12000) will be matched 1:1 by a contribution toward the construction of the much-needed 2nd level and general operating expenses of the Mother Teresa School in Periyakrisnapuram. This school is run by our partner organization READ and provides basic education to 178 underprivileged children; for more information on this school, please visit http://www.readindia.in/mother_teresa_school.html
Any additional or remaining funds unspent by the end of the movie will be used for our children programs in India.
