What is SARDO?
SARDO (Shirati for Active Rehabilitation and Development Organization) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization, based in Shirati, Tanzania. SARDO seeks to promote self-development and enable people with disabilities to have education, employment, social activities and full participation in community life. Sustainable development requires comprehensive strategies to reduce poverty, stigma, marginalization, diseases, and lack of education among persons with disabilities. SARDO will strive to provide physical rehabilitation, healthcare, prosthetics services, training and social services to youth in rural areas as well as create awareness among policy makers and well-wishers to support programs for persons with disabilities.

Our Vision:
All people with disabilities fulfill their potentials, are empowered in their identity, rights and capacity, and enjoy equal opportunities in communities free of discrimination and dominated by love.
Our Mission:
To foster the wellbeing of disabled children, orphans, women and youth in rural areas of Tanzania through conception, design and management of a variety of interventional self-empowerment programs and projects.
Origin of SARDO:
SARDO was founded by Archy Ezra Gomba, an international disability advocate from Tanzania, who lost his arm at a young age. Despite much difficulty and facing stigma, he was determined to succeed. His life experiences have given him the strength, vision and motivation to help people with disabilities who are marginalized in his village.
In 2019, Archy was chosen to be a fellow of Professional Fellows Program on Inclusive Disability Employment sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affair. He is now bringing back to Tanzania knowledge gained from the program. He’s planning to run the project Vocational Entrepreneurship Support for the Disabled in Tanzania and inclusive Education that helps children with disabilities prepare for full participation in community life.
Archy’s statement:
” I want to create in my community a sustainable organization that will undertake comprehensive and sustainable strategies to reduce poverty, stigma, marginalization, diseases, and lack of education among persons with disabilities. The organization will strive to provide physical rehabilitation, healthcare, prosthetics services, training and social services to youth in rural areas as well as create awareness among policy makers and well-wishers to support programs for persons with disabilities. it is my pleasure to share this and request support from sympathizers and generous people to enable this organization SARDO to carry out its mission of support for people with disabilities in my community.”
